The Magic Window Quilt

Annette Anderson Bailey

The Window Quilt is a contemporary version of a traditional quilt.  Through the use of African, Asian, Australian or some other collection of your choice, beautiful quilts have been produced.  Using this technique one can also create beautiful wall hangings, table runners, bed runners and similar objects.  The only limit to what can be produced is your imagination.  This quilt goes together quickly because of the strip piecing.  Beginning quilters as well as the more experienced have enjoyed success with this project.  Quilt Size:  Single Bed is 60” X 84”.  Numbers in parentheses are for the Queen size quilt (84 X 84).

Supply List:

Sewing machine, thread, needles and other basic sewing supplies to include a seam ripper.  Cutting board and rotary cutter. 12 ½” square ruler, 6 ½” X 18” ruler.  (6’ X 12” can be substituted if you do not have the 6 ½” X 18”).

Fabrics:  Scraps or fat quarters to total 2 to (3) yards of a variety of multicolored, multi patterned fabrics such as African, Asian, Australian, large floral prints, etc.   Background fabric:  6 (8) yards of a solid or tone on tone in either a light or dark color.  Accent fabric:  ¾ (1) yard of the opposite selected for the background, i.e.  if you use light for one, get dark for the other and vice versa.

MASK TIME!

Class Description:

Masks have always been a great home decorative item. People
love to add them in many different rooms in their homes and often collect them as they travel. Why not decorate with a mask you have made yourself? We will make a wall hanging. No sewing machine is required for this class.

My technique teaches you how to follow my line drawing to create a mask as unique as you are. Use the line drawing as a pattern and create yours just as I did… OR…. use the line drawing as a jumping off point and make a true one of a kind piece of art. In class you will learn to use the pattern to create your fused appliqué quilt top, which you can finish at home, instead of lugging your machine to the class. I will have samples of completed masks; I will share my tips and techniques for machine appliqué and we can discuss quilting methods at end of day.

Student Kit Fee: $7

Sacil Armstrong

Learn the Zentangle® Method for creating abstract art and discover ways to bring new elements to your quilting projects. If you can write your name, you can create a Zentangle. Using only 5 shapes - a dot, line, S, C and orb - we will create beautiful repeating patterns on paper and fabric and talk about how to transfer what we cover to stitching. As a bonus, the method is also an introduction to meditation and is great for stress management, brain storming, and increasing creativity!
